Las 25,000 hojas de esta colección digital presentan la historia de una tecnologia enigmantica en Puerto Rico. A pesar de que hoy sea tan concurrida, la expansion de los telefonos ocurrio de manera paulatina y lentamente. Sirviendo como la base de la multinacional International Telephone and Telegraph (IT&T), la PRTC fundada por Sosthenes Behn en 1905 se convirtio en campo de contienda social luego de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. La gobernacion de Rafael Hernandez Colón 'le dio pecho' el problema, nacionalizandola en 1974. Los documentos presentan evidencia de quejas publicas y privadas, y el trasfondo de las decisiones y acciones de su nacionalizacion.
The 25,000 sheets of this digital collection provide the hsitory of an enigmatic technology in Puerto Rico. In spite of the fact they are so common nowdays, the expansion of the telephone occurred in a slow and haphazard fasion. Serving for what would become the enormous conglomerate International Telephone and Telegraph (IT&T), the PRTC formed by Sosthenes Behn in 1905 would become a focal point of social conflict after World War II. The Rafael Hernandez Colon administration placed all of its efforts to the problem, nationalizing the business in 1974. The available documentation provide evidence of public and private concerns, and the context of the decision-making and tactical activity towards its nationalization.
