Dear friends,
As part of our new initiative, the Institute for Science and Technology in Latin America (ICTAL) has decided to begin to present important primary sources related to the development of the region. We begin with documents related to important and interrelated topics. In its totality, the number of documents surpasses 60,000 sheets of documentation, dating form the last third of the nineteenth century to the middle of the 20th century.
Given the private character of this initiative, without the luxury of state funds to cover its costs, we have to inform our users that we have been forced to charge in order to help subsist this initiative. We, as always, have however sough tot keep the fees as low as possible given the fact that many students, as well as academics from diverse parts of Latin America with unequal funds available, constitute the principal audience of this website. Each section, as a result, will have different fees for its services. (Please refer to each collection in specific for further information.)
We hope this initiative will facilitate research of such topics, making readily available materials which to date have not yet been catalogued or that are not easily accessible to researchers, writers, or formal academics.

Estimados Amigos,
Como parte de una nueva iniciativa, el Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología en América Latina (ICTAL) ha decidido empezar a hacer disponible importantes fuentes primarias relacionadas al desarrollo de la región. Comenzamos con documentos relacionados a temas de importancia e interrelacionados. En su totalidad, el caudal consiste en unas 60,000 hojas de documentación, desde el último tercio del siglo XIX hasta el ultimo quarto del siglo XX.
Debido el carácter privado de esta iniciativa, sin el lujo de fondos estatales para sufragar sus costos, lamentablemente nos vemos forzados a tener que cobrar para poder sufragar esta iniciativa. Hemos, como siempre, intentado de mantener los cargos más bajos posibles debido al hecho que muchos estudiantes, al igual que académicos de varias partes de America Latina (ambos con desigual ingresos) constituyen la audiencia principal de este portal. Cada sección, por lo tanto, tendrá diferencias en cargos por sus servicios. (Favor referirse a cada colección en especifico para mas información.)
Esperamos que esta iniciativa facilite la investigación de dichos temas, haciendo disponible materiales que hasta la fecha todavía no han sido catalogados o que simplemente no están fácilmente accesibles a investigadores, escritores o académicos formales.
